|
Livejournal is being evil and advertising filled. I used some LJ-Sec programy gizmo to move all my old posts over here, it missed some cause of date things but oh well. good enough. I'll probably still post there for now. Just preparing for whatever the next suck is that makes me want to flee.
Going to see Nada Surf Tommorow Yay :) |

because I don't want to study for my physics test....
I present... Ten Things I Love That Start With L!
1. Lupins - Ok maybe just when featured in monty python sketches
2. Lost - Bestest tv show in the history of tv shows
3. Limblifter -they are wonderfriggingtastic
4. Lemongrass Tofu - mmm... very yummy, must go have some this weekend.
5. Logic puzzles - the old kind with the grid and list of clues. you know the puzzle books that used to be beside the crosswords and wordsearch books before everyone fell in love with suduko
6. Lentils - they make good soup
7. Lego starwars - very fun video game :)
8. Learning stuff? - Yay smart.. (ok i'm reaching a little, this letter is tricky)
9. Life in hell comics - Way way funnier than the simpsons.
10. Lettuce - not that crappy iceburg stuff, like romaine and all those other dark green and purpley colored ones
Comment and I shall give you a letter! |

| Bus rant |
|
|
| 06:09pm 05/02/2008 |
| |
This morning there was approximately 3 millimeters of snow in Burnaby. Apparently this was enough to make it impossible for traffic to move any faster than a disabled snail.
I got off the Skytrain at Metrotown to see a massive crowd of 200-300* people waiting for the #130 bus that heads to brentwood. People near the front of the line were already complaining that they had been waiting for nearly an hour for a bus that is usually every 5-10 minutes.
I made my way to the end of the line, it looped from one end of the bus loop to the other then partially back. Then I waited... and waited... and waited... and waited some more... about 20-30 minutes passed and one bus showed up (other bus routes seemed to be running ok)... The line behind me continued to grow. A few people infront gave up waiting so the line slowly moved forward... and we waited and waited and waited some more.
Eventually a guy in a translink security top asked us which bus we were all waiting for (yes seriously I don't think they had a frigging clue what was going on) and eventually after I had been standing outside in the super freezing cold for about an hour 3 buses came. The line infront of me filled up the buses, I just managed to squeeze onto the 3rd one with about 5 or 6 people behind me getting on as well.
The bus ride itself took another full hour to travel a total of 5km. It was horrible.
I completely missed my first class. I'm sure I would have had a hell of a time explaining this to the instructor if 4 of my class mates hadn't been on the same bus.
yay
I hate snow and buses.
*(Guestimate based on 4 fully loaded crammed to the gills busses plus at least a dozen people who gave up waiting and went home/walked) |

Did I enter a time warp?
Much more music
video number 3 is Janet Jackson
Video number 2 is the Backstreet boys
seriously is it 1995?
This was then followed by Nickleback's Video for "Rockstar"
I think I might have liked this song in a weird perverse kinda way....
It's the first sign of the apocalypse. |

Warning Technology rant
ARRG
So windows decides that my computer needs to auto update with some security feature... OK sure I suppose i can deal with that. But then it also decides to "Auto Restart" while I was grabbing coffee... Buy buy unsaved work... Grrrrrrrrrr
Not that it was anything important, just copy/pasting some free online knitting pattern into word so i could change the text to magenta, the last color of ink in the printer.
Beware windows users. your computer can be hijacked and restarted without you knowing anytime your online... sneaky buggers.

couldn't print resignation letter due to lack of printer ink.
Today at work we had super important VIPs visiting. Our Project manager asked me into his office and he and half a dozen upper upper management folks proceeded to thank me for my hard work. I was then gifted with a company t-shirt...
wrapped around a 1GB ipod shuffle.
And basically told the next supervisor position is mine if i bother to apply.
uhm... yeah... so... hm...
I mostly nodded and mumbled thanks, the timing of this crazy odd appreciation fest was just to crazy a coincidence.
The Suck Fest of the Last few weeks that has had me hating my job to the point that i could vomit with rage seems to be receeding, yesterday we doubled the agents working in my group so we may actually be able to handle our workload... maybe I'll give it a couple more weeks.
A silly meme i gacked from i don't even remember where The career meme:
1. Go to http://www.careercruising.com/. 2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark. 3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions. 4. Post the top ten results

The New ODDS with Leeroy Stagger Cheers August 30
Leeroy stagger was a pleasant surprise, i had literally no idea who was opening till we got there, a great set, wish he had played some more old stuff but that was more than made up for by having the best band t-shirt ever.
:) :) :) :) 4/5 smilies
The New Odds were absofrigginglutelyfantastic. They played almost 20 songs, there was some hilarious banter about devil hunting. I'll attempt to decipher the setlist but its all abreviated.
Make You Mad Break Satisfied Write it in Lightning Not a lot (corner gas theme) Give up and Go away (strippers union) Out of (I think this was a new one) Mercy To Go Suppertime It falls apart Attention Nothing Beautiful Leaders Jack Hammer I Can't Someone Who is cool (break) impromptu version of detroit rock city sung by the new guy Good Times Radio in Heaven
The only unperfect thing about the evening was the shitty turnout, Between the Bar staff and the bouncers there was quite literally 1 employee for every 2 audience members. Oh well, Good music just isn't as popular as it should be and this had hardly any promo beyond being mentioned on myspace.
:D :D :D :D :D 5/5 really big smilies for being awesome |

hey look a survey
1. Of all the bands & artists in your collection, which one do you own the most albums? 54-40 (hm.. pearljam might actual win if side projects count.... nah)
2. What was the last song you listened to? Ryan Mcmahon - I tried to run
3. What's in your CD player right now? Ok the honest answer cause i really can't make up a better one State Of Shock -Life, Love & Lies. Weezer - the Green Album, and.... Bon Jovi - Crossroads i don't know how that got in there, must be aliens or poltergiests
4. What are your favorite instruments? Electric guitars... and tamborines
5. Who's your favorite local artists/bands? Why am i suddenly tempted to list half of the stuff in my ipod? perhaps just the "how are they not bigger than Jesus" playlist
Winston,54-40, ridley bent, Ryan Mcmahon, Superbeing, Doubting Paris, State of Shock, Leeroy stagger, Geoff Berner, Broken Condom Babies, (can I call the dudes local? probably not but i love that band)
a couple local bands i really miss. John ford, Faces of Eve, Pure, Rymes with Orange, and Brundlefly
6. What was the last show you attended? Ryan Mcmahon - a week and a bit ago,
7. What was the greatest show you've ever been to? What a toss up
arts county fair 8 - BEST LINEUP EVER
54-40
the odds (last show ever)
Econoline Crush
Pure
second best
some outdoor all weekend thing at the plaza of nations
here's an old assed article http://www.nsnews.com/issues04/w062004/064104/living/064104li1.html
some bands i recall
chilliwack, 54-40, Great big Sea, Spirit of the West, Sloan and i'm pretty sure the salteens were one of the early openers and i think.stabilo might have been that weekend also but don't quote me on that :)
? If i'm now listening to something else do i have to change my answer to questiong 2? if so "The Dudes - Do the Right thing" 8. What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert? This is dangerous, I always end up pissing someone off any time i mention disliking a band. (ususally cause someone in the band is standing right behind me)... really there are to many to list but here's a couple lowlights
some guy named Patrick Watson made me flee the media club in horror once, ear hurting odd noises. it was "art rock" or some BS like that.
Raised by Wolves
the Art of Dying (I have seen them twice. 3 years apart... they did not get better)
oy, scanning through my hideous live journal "reviews" that shit still cracks me up, I miss 2004 :(
9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of? it's to connected, if you discover you hate (REALLY HATE) the members of a band it effects your appreciation of the music
10. What is the most musically involved you have ever been? extra'd in a couple music videos? Jumped on stage once at 54-40? watched my mom hug a bass player? learned to play jingle bells on the guitar?
11. What show are you looking forward to? The New ODDS WWOOOOOOOTTT!!!!
12. What is your favorite band shirt? hm... toss up between ridley bent (young couple with bottle of moonshine heading towards a tree) and Salteens (Pastel pink with Hot pink skull and crossbones)
13. What musicians would you like to hang out with for a day? hm... I am way to antisocial for that to be any actual fun... Plus all the bands i really really like are kinda old guys so after "omigod omigod i luv your band" x10 i think i'd run out of stuff to say
14. What musicians would you like to be in love with you for a day? I don't have any current crushes on musician
15. What was your last musical "phase" before you wizened up? Weird assed experimental indie rock, like the kind with weird noises and no actual songs. I suddenly realized that I'm never going to do massive piles of drugs so i'm not going to get it
16. Sabbath or solo Ozzy? so this is like a question about whether i prefer to keep the sabbath holy or watch ozzy and harriet?
17. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek? Wah.
(new answer to 2 is Run Chico Run - Smitten)
18. What was the greatest decade for music? 1997 - current. if you haven't been listening to the crap on the radio
19. What is your favorite movie soundtrack? Chicago Cab, it's a goodun
20. Where would you be without music? I don't want to even contemplate that, i'd be a raving looney
21. Have you ever had sex while listening to a band live? no way, gots to pay attention to the music.
22. Who is your favourite artist who is much better live than in a recording? hmm... i think most of the ones i could think of are just because of crap assed recording quality... but if i have to pick one "minimilist Jug Band" pretty ok recorded, but frigging awsome live.
(2 now Nada Surf - Popular) 23. Do you have a hidden desire to be a popular musician? nah it's not really my thing... now if i could be anonomously popular...
24. Mp3s or jail time? Jail time... Illegal downloads are bankrupting such hard working musician like MEtalica, those poor sad buggers, going to be shopping in thrift stores before they know it....
25. Have you ever fallen in love at a concert? Yes.
26. Do you think people look sexy all sweaty from dancing? Ew sweaty gross. also those crazy arm flayling girls are going to poke someones eye out.
27. Ever been injured in a mosh pit? Only once. Frigging Guitar player jumped off the stage and landed on my foot. if he'd weighted more than 90 pounds i might have had a busted toe.
28. Have you ever used a body part as an instrument? clapping?
29. Have you ever used drugs to enhance the music experience? drugs are bad... i think i may have gotten gooned once on second hand weed though.
(2 Nada Surf -always love)
30. What was the last song you heard that gave you a chill, in any context? Doubting Paris - Safe |
